2018 Columbus Day Regatta
Five demanding races on Saturday in Yaquina Bay, Oregon. With gusts over 25 kts, a mast was lost, some rig damage on others. There was the occasional broach, with three different boats having to stop to get a crew member back in the boat. However, it was sunny.
Sunday was gray with the wind a much more manageable (and appreciated) 8-10 kts; so the current from the 7ft. tide shift ruled tactics. It also lead to two boats being briefly grounded trying to hug a little too close to the southern shore. As the wind died and eventually shut off, the third race was abandoned as some of us were about the set an anchor to avoid being carried back out past the breakwater.
